There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers...

Have you ever noticed that MC's tell you to give it up for someone when you just got done giving it up for them. Goodness MC's We just gave it up, why do you need us to give it up yet AGAIN?!?!

Maybe love is a grown up version of Santa Clause

Ready for another song that I love?!?!? I am really on a roll tonight with great music! Here is a great one by Bruno Mars

Count On Me Lyrics

If you ever find yourself stuck in the middle of the sea
I'll sail the world to find you
If you ever find yourself lost in the dark and you can't see
I'll be the light to guide you

Find out what we're made of
What we are called to help our friends in need

You can count on me like one, two, three
I'll be there and I know when I need it
I can count on you like four, three, two
And you'll be there 'cause that's what friends
Are supposed to do, oh yeah, ooh, ooh

If you toss and you turn and you just can't fall asleep
I'll sing a song beside you
And if you ever forget how much you really mean to me
Everyday I will remind you

Find out what we're made of
What we are called to help our friends in need

You can count on me like one, two, three
I'll be there and I know when I need it
I can count on you like four, three, two
And you'll be there 'cause that's what friends
Are supposed to do, oh yeah, ooh, ooh, yeah, yeah

You'll always have my shoulder when you cry
I'll never let go, never say goodbye

You can count on me like one, two, three
I'll be there and I know when I need it
I can count on you like four, three, two
And you'll be there 'cause that's what friends
Are supposed to do, oh yeah, ooh, ooh

You can count on me 'cause I can count on you

No matter what happens we can say we came, we saw, we tried

You know how good music speaks to your soul, well this song is definitley a great song for the soul! I love it!!!

Ninety and Nine Written By Michael McLean
I am one of the Ninety nine I am not perfect but basically I am doing fine
I have not lost my way and have not gone astray I am just one of 99

I’m hearing the heart of the fold I’m not mindless but I try to do as I told
I’m not tempted to run and become the lost one
I’m just hearing the heart of the fold

So why is my Sheppard coming this way towards me, he’s holding his arms out and calling my name and yes he is calling my name
How can this be I’m just on of the 99 I have stumbled and fallen but I have kept in line I’m not one he would seek I’m not that unique.

I’m just one of the 99

So why is my Sheppard treating me like his lost lamb and he is searching to find me
And he is holding me now and yes, he is holding me now and teaching me who I am
So why I am I feeling like I am the only one here it’s like I am his favorite
And he takes me aside and he sweetly confides these remarkable words in my ear

He says one of the 99
Have you any idea how brightly you shine
You are safe in this fold and it is time you were told
That I know where you’ve been so I’ll know where you’ll be
Because all of your life you have been following me

You are more than just one of the sands of the sea
Or just more than one of the ninety and nine NO

You are mine you are mine, yes you are mine, all mine

No matter the size of the issue, how we respond can reset the course of our life

Elder Top spoke to us at the institute forum a few weeks ago, and I loved the analogies he made! He really put the story of Peter walking on water into perspective. He talked about how when we hear the story we always focus on the end where Jesus said "oh ye of little faith..." We hear him and do what we interpret as berating Peter, and we think, oh yeah, silly Peter, how could you have so little faith with the Savior standing right beside you! Elder Top brought such perspective to the story and said we focus too much on the fact that Peter started sinking, but really, Peter got up when the savior reached down to help him up, and then Peter WALKED all the way back to the ship. He walked on water arm and arm with the savior, but we don't focus on that part of the story.
Elder top said "If you never cry out in those moments of sinking, you will never feel the majesty of his hands reaching down to save you." He related a story of his grandson who was scared to death of vacuums, and stairs, and when he was holding the child he would face his fears, and touch the vacuum, and take the stairs two at a time, but when he tried by himself he just stood there and cried. He knows that if he cries for help his loving Grandfather will reach down and take his hand and the Savior is the same way! He is just waiting for us to call on him and reach out our hands so he can help us. :) This thought made me feel so warm and fuzzy. It is so true. We are so loved by a Heavenly Father, and he wants so badly to help us, he just wants us to ask. I was thinking the other day that our Father in Heaven doesn't want to force us to ask him for help, he wants us to show him we want help from him. Sometimes I get annoyed when my parents force their help on me, and try to give me advice when I don't want it or don't think I need it, and Heavenly Father knows this, and he won't bug us and nag us, he lets us come to him in our own time.
Elder Top quoted C.S. Lewis who said, "Sometimes the Lord knocks us silly to teach us what we say we believe." I loved this thought. We can sit here and preach all we want, but in the end we have to prove it. We can do anything through the Lord. Elder Top also said "The Lord will shape your spine to carry the cross placed on it." That is so true!!! We have a Father in Heaven who loves us, and gives us trials to help us get back to him. Without trials, we would not become perfected, and would not be able to make it back to him.
President Hinkely said, "Our problems lie in our fears." Sometimes we are so afraid of change, or anything that we don't know, but really we just need to put our faith in the Lord.
Another great thing Elder Top said was that when we hear miraculous stories from the pulpit we instantly compare their strongest strengths to our weakest weaknesses. "When we compare our weakest weaknesses to other's strengths, we always come up short." Lastly he said "challenges to our faith are not external, but internal." We are our own worst enemies. We come up with our own challenges to our faith, and over analyze things, and make them bigger problems then they really are.
Oh man! What a great forum! I loved it! So great!!!!!

Though some days may disappoint us, there is light at the end of each night

We have had so many great institute forums lately! I love it! I am going to share the last one by David Osmond. He has had an extraordinary life, and he was so refreshing! He said " Don't ask yourself 'why me' unless you want to ask why all of the good things happend to you too." I love that thought, sometimes we get caught up in pity parties asking how could this happen to me? I'm a good person, yada yada, but really, so many great and wonderful things happen to each of us every day, so we should be counting our blessings more often, and minimizing the bad things because life is full of bumps and bruises, and tests and trials, as David Osmond's father said "life is tough, but so are you!" He mentioned that TESTimony is so important. It is totally a result of our tests and trials through life. I loved that thought! It is so wonderful to remember why we are here in this life. We are here to learn and to get back to our father in heaven.
Goals were also a subject of discussion, David said "Most people don't meet their goals because they aim too high and they miss, but when they aim low they hit the target." I loved this! It is so true, how easy is it to make a basket when you are playing with one of those kiddy basketball hoops, but then when you face the real thing it is a little more difficult, and takes more practice, and concentration.
The best thing David said is "There is joy to be had!" I love that. He was referring to life in the gospel and the joy it brings, and it is so true! There is sooooo much joy to had! It is ripe for the taking! AH! I love it!!! He quoted "We are not human beings having a spiritual experience, we are spiritual beings having a human experience." I love that quote so much! It totally puts things into perspective of why we are here, and what we have to accomplish.
The last quote that really hit me was one that I'd heard before too. It is "the church is not a retreat for the saints, it's a hospital for the sinners."
To end my little David Osmond rant I want you to read they lyrics to his song. I want to just buy all of his music!!! He is soooo amazing!!! This song is so powerful, and really puts life into perspective.

Loneliest Walk-David Osmond
"She pushes 'L' on that old elevator door
Her heart is broken, arms are bare
The doors are closing and she's staring at the floor
There's still a piece of her up there

It seems like yesterday she saw him on the screen
Painted a room and picked out names
But now she has to leave him under big machines
To keep alive his tiny frame
She's on the way to her car but it's never felt this far

With each step she takes there's another to follow
And one more ache, one more tear to swallow
She's gotta keep moving,
Forget about the bruising inside
Through the loneliest walk of her life

He pushes up his glasses, staring at her name
One last time before he leaves
He saw this coming but to see it now, engraved
It's still so hard to believe

It seems like yesterday they kissed and made their vows
Her favorite flowers in her hair
He's staying later than they normally allow
Clutching those flowers in a prayer
And on the way to their front door, no hand to hold there anymore

With each step he takes there's another to follow
And one more ache, one more tear to swallow
He's gotta keep moving,
Forget about the bruising inside
Through the loneliest walk of his life
He pushes up the board they've tied onto his shoulders
He bears, with dignity, disgrace
He hears the jeering and the wind is getting colder
Tastes the blood upon his face

His body bruised an back still open from the scourges
The consequence of wicked men
He knows no man on earth has ever deserved this
But still He bears it all for them
And He keeps moving up the hill to do His Father's will

With each step He takes there's another to follow
And one more ache, one more tear to swallow
We all stand by and watch as the price is paid
Through the loneliest walk of His life
So we don't feel alone in the night
We can have His hand holding the light
Through the loneliest walk of our lives.
Keep pushing through this lonely walk you're going through
'Cause someone's walked this way before

Don't feel bad for the suicidal cats, they're gotta kill themselves nine times before they get it right

So I don't know who wrote this, but I love it!

Go placidly amid the nose and the haste, and remember what peace there is in silence.
Go as far as possible without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others even to the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plan.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble, it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise cation in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery, but let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection, neither be cynical about love, for in the face of aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the the grass.
Take kindly to the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond the wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here, and whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.
With all it's sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful, strive to be happy.

You've got a jump in your step, but a rip in your rep

I would like to dedicate this blog to Raising Hope. Seriously that show is SOOO funny! The premise sounds kind of weird, it's about a guy who had a one night stand with a convinced felon, and then she got the electric chair, and he got the baby. It sounds weird, but it is so funny! Let me just share a few quotes:

"We are responsible we're just also and also passionate and spontaneous." -Virginia
"Those are also our gladiator names if we are ever on American Gladiator."-Burt
"Which we might do, because we're spontaneous!"-Virginia

"I'm still reeling from that 13th astrological sign. I kind of need to reevaluate a lot of things, and remove a tattoo." -Gas guy

"Boy the homeless people in this town have great nicknames!"-Jimmy

"Why does my room smell like old people?"-Maw Maw
"Because yesterday we let an old person go in there."-Virginia

"I'm donating a kidney to the mayor"-Burt
"Why would you be giving a kidney to the mayor? You voted for the other guy."-Jimmy
"Can't you put petty politics aside for day Jimmy, the man's life is at stake!"-Burt
"The mayor is a woman."-Jimmy
"Can't you just let me have this? This is as close as I'll ever get to being mayor."-Burt

"We'll have to do a coin toss. Heads I win, tails you loose? Tails...you loose..."-Virginia
"Dang it! I never win coin tosses!"-Burt

Isn't Hope seriously sooo cute?!!? She has the funniest faces in the show!

Love is friendship on fire

Have you ever noticed how when your friends get married they disappear? Like there is a married only black hole that they get sucked into. So you don't hear from them for months, then suddenly they text you and say "GUESS WHAT? I'M PREGNANT!!!" They reappear for about 9 months, then you see them at the baby shower, then POOF! They disappear again!
I mean I get that when you get married things are different, but when I get married, I still want to have friends! Is that breaking some kind of married protocol? I dono...
Another thing about marriage that scares me is all of the horror stories, and trust me working at a salon you get to hear them all!!!
This one woman's husband was cheating on her for fifteen years! FIFTEEN YEARS?!?!?! I can't even imagine! I am so scared of getting married, and having the perfect little life, then one day waking up, and my husband doesn't love me anymore. How does that even happen. Obviously he stopped trying, and stopped working at the relationship. I guess quality #1 in a husband-hard worker! haha!
This was crazy: two women getting their hair done side by side had almost identical stories! Both of their husbands not only left them, but they were both due to drugs! Secret drug addicts, and the wives had no idea!
Almost daily at the salon I get told how lucky I am to be single. How sad is that? We live in such a scary time!!! This is one reason I don't get why people rush into marriage. You are in the "honeymoon stage" for almost two years (I'm not saying that you should date two years or anything...), therefore when you marry someone right off the bat, you don't even know the real them. You are still putting your best foot forward. It is just so scary to me to jump into such a big thing especially with so many divorces.
Anyway those are just my thoughts for the day on marriage. This little boy on the playground the other day said "Just do your best and listen to your heart." Great advice! haha

Okay, so I don't know what kind of stuff was in the water on Thursday night, but there were some CRAZIES out! Story time!
So I went to Dan's grocery store, and as I am pulling in I see the perfect spot! The last one on the row! There is a man standing right in front of the parking spot. So, naturally I stop, and wait for him to cross the road. He doesn't move...he just stands there. So I politely signaled him to cross, which he did, ever so slowly. As he was moving out of the way I headed into the parking spot. Then he STOPPED and freaked out flailing his hands like I was going to hit him (which was so confusing because I was going right into the spot and he was walking left into the store.). So I pointed over to the parking spot indicating I was not going to run him over, I was getting into the parking spot. So I parked, and he kept looking over his shoulder giving me crusties.
I knew he would want to yell at me, so I strategically waited till he got inside, then proceeded into the store. As soon as I walked in the door I saw him WAITING by the carts for me, I thought oh great...here we go. So I walk right up to him look him in the eye, and he starts yelling at me "Why did you signal me to go then speed up????" I replied trying to stay calm,
"I am sorry if I scared you, but I was just pulling into the parking spot the opposite direction you were going. I wasn't trying to run you over or anything."
To which he just kept yelling something about how I was reckless, and it was a stupid thing to do blah blah blah. To which I again calmly responded,
"I'm really sorry sir, but did you feel like your life was in danger at some point?"
He said, "Well no, but you just seemed really reckless..." blah blah same thing over and over... so again I asked,
"Were you scared I was going to hit you, because that totally was not my intent. I wouldn't just run someone down in the parking lot."
To which he responded, "Well no, I didn't think that."
I was thinking okay then why the heck are we having this conversation?!?! I mean sure if I am barreling down the isle like a maniac, if I hadn't come to a complete stop to let him get across the isle, (so if by speeding up he meant 3 miles per hour...), or maybe if I had flipped him off and been yelling obscenities at him, sure stop me and yell at me in the store, but really??!?! If you weren't scared, and you didn't think I was going to hit you why waste your time and mine to YELL at me in the store?!?! Seriously what a jerk! Old man, do you have nothing better to do with your time then yell at people? Just because I look young, doesn't mean I am reckless and don't know how to drive. I have a father thank you! I don't need you treating me like your daughter and berating me!
So the best part of this story is that after we had parted ways this woman came up to me and was like
"excuse me, but do you know that man?"
I told her I have no idea who he is, and told her about what happened in the parking lot, then she said that he was way out of line. She almost stepped in and said something, but she didn't know if he was my Dad or something because he was totally waiting for me in the store, and I walked right up to him like I knew him. I told her she totally should have stepped in because that was the most awkward, weird experience of my life! haha.
I am so grateful that A. she saw the whole thing, and B. she came up and said something to be about it after. I am glad someone else was a witness to the madness! Seriously that man was so crazy!

So another crazy, (but not so crazy...) was this lady at the red box, who told me that one day when the world goes to pot, all of the red boxes will drain our bank accounts because they have all of our card information, and that it is better to be poor! haha! I assured her that I have that one handled! haha!

Worrying does not empty the tomorrow of it's troubles, it empties today of it's strengths

I was reading a conference talk by Elder Cook the other night, and he said "Our day has been described as a time of plenty, and an age of doubt." as I pondered this thought I was thinking of how true it is. We have everything at the tip of our fingers, yet there are so many people who don't believe in anything let alone the belief in a supreme creator. It is hard to understand how we can live in an age of such rich blessings, yet we don't recognize their origins. It is very sad to think of what an ungrateful generation we live in. Anyway, just a small thought for the day.

Cheer up my friends all say

Okay, so I officially need rehab. I have spent SOOO much money in the past few weeks on St. Patrick's Day decorations. Honestly, it's not even my favorite, and I haven't decorated for the holiday since I lived at home, and if you walked in my house right now you would think my favorite color was green. It's wall to wall green, and shamrocks! Don't get me wrong I am very proud of my purchases, and it looks super cute in my house, but really? St. Patrick's day? RANDOM!!! I cannot spend ANY more money on stupid holiday decor. You use it what? Once a year, then stick it in a box in your closet. Not worth it! I need to go to decorators anonymous! I just can't help it when I see a cute little saying, especially if it's sparkles! Yeah, I know, I have a problem!

It does not do well do dwell on dreams and forget to live

I went through a phase where I was absolutely obsessed with the Color Code. I love finding out different personalities, and why people are the way they are. I remember me and my co worker read it, and the whole time we were figuring out what our other co workers were. It is so interesting. I am a Red-Yellow, pretty much half and half. People usually think I am Yellow because I am very social, and talkative, but then the red part comes in, I'm a leader, organized, and things of the red nature. It is so cool to figure out how to better get along with people based on their personality types. If you have never taken the test I definitely recommend it! it's so enlightening!

I am fairly certain that given a cape and a tiara I could save the world

Have you ever lost your cell phone? Is that not the scariest feeling in the whole world! You panic and think oh crap, well I'll just call myself...wait...I don't have a phone. Hum...well maybe if I text so and so and tell them to call me....wait....that won't work! It's so crazy to think how dependent we are on our phones. I have like three phone numbers memorized, and they are all numbers from my childhood IE my parent's home phone, my best friend Elyse's home number, and my mom's cell phone number (even that last one is a little dicey). What would we do without our cell phones? I feel like I would be cut off from the entire world without a phone.
Do you ever catch yourself measuring the worth of you day by how many text messages or phone calls you get? After work when you check your phone it's the saddest feeling ever to see zero text messages, or phone calls. :( Well that's basically all I have to say about that, just a little rant about phones...I love them!

If I had a type, baby it would be you!

So I was listening to my co-worker talk about how she has her slime ball ex-husband in her life forever because they have a daughter together, and I thought, how unfortunately true! In the world that we live in today sometimes people thing, well, just go for it, and if it doesn't work out, get a divorce, but really, if you do end up getting a divorce, and you have children together, you are in each other's lives forever! People really need to not rush into big decisions like marriage. It really is a serious matter! Who you marry determines your livelihood. My co-worker is having a rough time right now because not only does she have to deal with her ex because of her daughter, but now her ex is living with her brother, and still talks to her sisters all the time. AWKWARD! SO morale of the story, make good decisions!

Nine in the afternoon

Random embarrassing moment alert!
So we were out to eat a Hires, and the fries tasted very odd, and they were a darker brownish than usual, and I was trying to figure out what was different, and I said I bet they are wheat! hahahahaha! yeah.....BLONDE MOMENT! Silly Jessica potatoes don't come in wheat!

You can't have two fun parents, that's a carnival

I saw the cutest little girl today, she slipped and dropped all of her cherio's all over the ground, then all by herself, without even being asked, she started picking them all up. Does that ever happen? Usually you have to force kids to pick up their things! This one child I was watching purposely dropped crayons all over the ground, and I asked her to pick them up, and she started throwing a tantrum, and I even started picking them up and told her I would help her. She was not happy. Seeing this well behaved clean child made me sooooo happy! There is hope for the future generation! haha!

Live simply so that others may simply live

Does this ever happen to anyone else...?

When I am in a public restroom, and half of the things are automatic (IE sink, soap, dryers, toilet ect.) I look for the rest to be automatic too. I cannot tell you how may times I've left the water in the sink running when the toilet was automatic, and the hand dryers! haha! Just a random little thought, but really, am I the only one?

PS my absolute favorite thing in the world is the dyson automatic hand dryer! LOVE IT!

Eye opening health experiences I suppose...

Okay, last night was an eye-opening experience for me. I don't know what I am doing at the gym, but apparently not the right things. I got SOOOOO winded walking up this mountain. I had to stop like twice to catch my breath, and get my heart rate back to normal. I don't know if I am just not working out the muscles I was using or what, but it was ridiculous! I mean I go to the gym, maybe not every day like I should, but I was seriously WINDED! I need to work my way up on the stair stepper or something. I need to do some sort of endurance training or something, I mean it was like a 10 minute walk up a steep mountain! I should have been able to do it for 10 minutes right? I don't know I felt week and WAY out of shape!!! :(Well more motivation to hit the gym and to do more specific things I guess!

If you talk you'd better walk you better back your crap up

Sometimes I forget what things were like growing up where Mormon was not the most common religious practice. I went to a Ski competition in Deer Valley last night, and I was surrounded by people not only from all over the country, but from all over the world. I think I had forgotten that in other places of the world the smell of beer and cigarette smoke is absolutely normal. I have been so sheltered here in Utah, that I actually noticed the smell last night, and it bothered me. Where as in Oregon it would have just been like eh, no big deal, I don't do it, but I know people who do for sure. I have been here in Utah for about five years; am I forgetting my roots? Am I forgetting what it's like to have to stand up for your beliefs and take a stand on things you find important? Dare to be different right? Am I still doing that here in Utah, where most of my friends believe the same as I do, and I know I will see them at church, or FHE weekly.
I love my life here in Salt Lake, don't get me wrong, I love my friends, and I love all of the social activities for people my age, and who have my same standards. I don't know if it's winter that is making me feel this way (because I feel like every day all I want to do is grab a few friends and watch a movie, since it's too cold to do much else), or if I just need a change.
Change is really scary especially starting off in cosmetology. Now would be the perfect time to move if I am going to because I don't want to spend years building up a client base only to decide down the road to pack it up and start over again. I really don't want to live in Utah for the rest of my life. I want to see what else the world has to offer me. I mean I haven't even been farther east then Utah! This is sad business!
I have been hearing tons about Paulo Alto lately, that sounds SOOO fun, first off it's California! Love it already. Second it sounds like there is a pretty good LDS single's scene down there, so it wouldn't be too different socially from Salt Lake. AHHh!!! I want to do it!!!!!!!! I wish it wasn't so expensive down in the great land of opportunity CALI!
I feel sort of like I'd just be going from one bubble to another though. Utah is definitely a bubble. I am in my own little Mormon world, where we say "sparit" and "prafit" and "mountn", and go to activities where no drugs or alcohol are served and see each other at least weekly. California is definitley a bubble too, a Hollywood bubble. AHHH!!! What to do what to do...

You loose balance, you loose power

I have had the longing for a few months now to go home to Oregon, and just clean out all the junk I have stored away in my parent's shed. I remember when I first moved away to college I packed away boxes of stuff that I could never part with, and my wise Mother said "Jessica, if you pack it away in a box you will forget about it, and you might as well just donate it to Goodwill(because in parts of the world besides Utah, we have Goodwill's not DI haha) now." Of course I threw a huge pre-adult fit, about how I could never live without my precious jewels, but I just didn't have room in my dorm room for them, blah blah blah. Now suddenly I just want to go look through all of my long forgotten "goodies"! I want organize, and throw away the junk I have forgotten about, just as dear ole Mother had predicted. Will I be pleasantly surprised when I see the old treasures, or will I think man, I have been wasting my parent's shed space! Hummmm....Well I guess to be continued...
